" DISTURBANCE AND RECLAMATION APRIL 1990 TO (MARCH 1991
Reclamation activity during the 1990 reporting year consisted of
site cleanup, gradinq of slopes in inactive areas , reduction of a
road cut and planting of areas graded during the year and
previous year . Table A (page 2) summarizes acreage disturbed and
reclai-fined by area during the 1990 reporting year .
In the following sections of this report , each area is addressed ,
covering environmental activity at the site during the 1990
reporting year and planned environmental activity for the 1991
reporting year .
American Tunnel Portal Area - Plate No. 1
During the 1990 report year , no additional acreage was disturbed
and no acreage was reclaimed.
General site cleanup was performed with metal material being
hauled away by the recycler and other material being hauled to
Tailings Pone? #1 for burial.
Biomonitoring has been ongoing for a year now. A THE (Toxicity
Reduction Evaluation) is ongoing at this time to determine the
cause and/or treatability of the persistent toxicity to
Ceriodaohnia dubia. The discharge is not toxic to Fathead
minnows but shows a persistent low toxicity to the Ceriodaphs .
Through treatment changes the level of toxicity has been reduced
(from a LC50 of 30o to an LC50 of 80%) but to-date we have been
unable to eliminate it or determine its cause.
Activities planned for 1991 are:
(1 ) To do the annual site cleanun work .
(2) To continue working on the Biomonitoring toxicity problem.
(3) To remove the old Lead Carbonate Tailing Pond from the site
by excavating and trucking the material to Tailings Pond #1 .
This project was approved by the MLRD in TR-11 and is
scheduled for the fall. of 1991 .
Terry Tunnel Area - Plate No. 2
During the 1990 reporting year , no additional acreage was
disturbed and no acreage was reclaimed although an area that was
regraded after completion of a construction project was treated
with manure and seeded for test purposes .
General site cleanup was accomplished along with the replacement
of the flow measurement weir with an H type flume (for accuracy
over a wider flow range) . Piping was installed to allow either
settling pond to be taken out of service for maintenance. The
settling ponds were cleaned in the fall in order to leave maximum
- 1 -
r W//6
