Box 158
Carbondale, Colorado 81623
RE: Revegetation Success Standards - Coal Basin Mines
Our File No. C-017-81
Dear Mr. Bowman:
As you requested in a meeting on September 28, 1982, the Division has
developed a scope of work for each of two proposed studies relating to
1 revegetation success standards.
t The vegetation analysis as outlined in the scope of work would have to be
done in the summer of 1983 and the mine bench outslope study would have
to be started in 1983.
Also, as we discussed briefly, the woody plant densities measured in the
surrounding unaffected area are very high and impracticle to attain. There-
fore, the Division suggests that the woody plant density standards be set
at 100 trees/acre and 500 shrubs per acre for each of the three major
vegetation types.
The herbaceous cover and production standards would then be the amount
measured in the surrounding vegetation types. If you agree to these standards,
the permit application should be updated accordingly.
If you have any questions, please call.
Sincerely,
14 Herron
Reclamation Specialist
JH:ys
cc: !like Savage
