In 1978 , two were sighted on <br /> the west rim of Coal Basin. They remained in the area all <br /> summer . The winter of 1978-79 was severe, however , and the <br /> goats have not been sighted since . <br /> In 1979 the State Division of Wildlife <br /> conducted a wildlife flyover elk count of the areas around <br /> Placita , Helgate Mesa and Redstone which produced the <br /> following results : <br /> . 1979 Elk Count <br /> Bulls 12 <br /> Cows 89 <br /> Calves 49 <br /> Total 150 <br /> The Thompson Creek Land Use Plan of the <br /> U . S .
