H. Vegetation Information
1 . Introduction
Vegetation inventories and studies of the permit area
have been accomplished by Western Resource Development Corpora-
tion and Intermountain Soils , Inc . commencing in 1980 . See
Appendices III-H-1 through 3 to this section for the results of
these inventories and studies . Also , see Appendix III-G-5 for
the combined soils and vegetation study accomplished by Inter-
mountain Soils , Inc . and the vegetation maps labled Exhibits III-
H-1 and III-H-2 located in map pockets at the end of this section .

2 . Vegetation map discussion
a . General
The accompanying vegetation maps (III-H-1 & III-H-
2) delineate plant communities which occur within Coal Basin,
including the mine plan and adjacent areas .
The maps illustrate information gathered during
two phases , conducted during the growing seasons of 1979 and
1980 . The first phase, during 1979 , included :
- Describing vegetation community types ;
- Compiling a plant species list ;
- Preparing a detailed vegetation map ;
- Establishing and obtaining cover data for
representative reference areas for each major community type
already or potentially affected by the mining operation.
The second phase, during 1980, included :
- Surveying the study area for species not encountered
in 1979 ;
1
