Landslide and Hillslope ,Deposits
The dip slope conditions present on the west side of
Huntsman Ridge and the naturally unstable slopes of the Mancos
shale have resulted in a number of mapped and apparent
landslides within the Goal Basin Mine adjacent area. The
locations of these landslide features are shown on
Landslides in the Mancos shale and, in general,
all landslides are characterized by a hummocky topography
and poor internal drainage. Seeps and springs are prevalent
but do not necessarily represent a potential water supply.
The spring present in the SE/4, Section 14, T. 10 .S , R. 90 .W,
is probably a seep in a landslide deposit as indicated by
the topography of the area .
Glacial activity has resulted in the deposition of a number
of gravel veneers and areas of glacial till on the western
E'xh('6j Z- C- 2
slopes of Huntsman Ridge, (See These
glacial deposits probably have sufficient porosity to store
water and probably become water saturated during spring
runoff. However, these deposits are thin, limited in lateral
extent and are not considered a significant aquifer within
the mine plan and adjacent area.
23
