The USGS evaluated stream flow character- <br /> istics for Colorado utilizing continuous and crest gauge <br /> records . A developed and accurate technique to evaluate <br /> regional data for site specific analysis is to relate the <br /> stream flow characteristics to basin characteristics by <br /> equations developed by applying multiple regression tech- <br /> niques to available data . Stream flow characteristics such <br /> as low and peak flows , flood volumes , mean flow volumes and <br /> flow variability characteristics were used . In addition <br /> basin characteristics such as drainage area , main channel <br /> slope and lengths , mean basin elevation and lakes and pond <br /> construction, forest cover , -mean precipitation temperatures , <br /> latitude and slope aspects were evaluated . <br /> Based on this evaluation, the equation for <br /> estimating mean annual flows in the mountain region of <br /> Colorado that contains all significant variables is <br /> Qa = 0 . 0014A0 . 956ST0 . 192P2 . 101ti-0 . 189 <br /> where A = Drainage Area (Square Miles) <br /> St = Lakes and Ponds <br /> P = bean Precipitation (in inches to <br /> the nearest inch) <br /> ti = Mean Minimum January Temperature <br /> The regression constant is 1 . 4x10-3 with a <br /> standard error of - 47 . 3% . <br /> Precipitation information recorded in close <br /> proximity to the preparation plant augmented precipita- <br /> tion records being maintained by the U .
