2011 Reclamation Report
Southfield Mine
Division Inspector reported finding and photographing Mountain Lion tracks at the facilities area
of the mine.
As reported previously, subsequent to the Southfield Mine 2006 and 2010 Revegetation
Monitoring Report generated by IME, Inc. of Yampa, Colorado, IME recommends that EFCI
requests the DRMS to modify the existing revegetation success standards in the Southfield Permit
Document. The recommendation to modify is based on IME's 2006 report that found
inconsistency of woody plant density and species diversity in comparing the mine Portal Area
(Facilities Area) to the existing `undisturbed' vegetation reference area found adjacent to and
south of the `reclaimed' Facilities Area. It should be noted that IME has determined that the
majority of the areas adjacent to the mine Facilities Area have been pre- disturbed prior to or
perhaps during the pre -law or interim law periods, 1977 - 1983 respectively.
To address this concern, EFCI submitted Technical Revision No.39 (TR -39) during May, 2011
requesting approval to relocate the respective Vegetation Reference Area to the northern side of
the mine Facilities Area that offers a more northeasterly slope aspect. EFCI believes the proposed
area has a slope aspect more akin to the respective Facilities Area. TR -39 is being reviewed by
the Division.
7
