18" to 4 ' thick in the Coal Basin area , but thickens to as <br /> much as 15 ' some 10 miles to the north. <br /> The upper , undifferentiated strata of the <br /> Williams Pork formation consists of sandstones , siltstones , <br /> mudstones and shales , and forms the resistant upper cliffs <br /> and ridges which surround Coal Basin . <br /> To the west of Huntsman Ridge, down-slope <br /> from the Coal Basin mine plan and permit area , the Tertiary <br /> Wasatch-Ohio Creek conglomerate outcrops in the adjacent <br /> area . It is the youngest consolidated bedrock unit asso- <br /> ciated with the Coal Basin area , and consists of up to <br /> 5 , 800 ' of interbedded claystone , siltstone , sandstone and <br /> conglomerate in the Wasatch, and around 400 ' of sandstones <br /> and conglomerates in the Ohio Creek. As noted , the Wasatch- <br /> Ohio Creek conglomerate does not overlie the coal deposits <br /> to be mined during the permit and mine life periods and is <br /> not found in the mine plan or permit areas . <br /> Unconsolidated Quaternary alluvial deposits <br /> can be found in adjacent areas on both sides of the divide , <br /> within the East Muddy Creek and Coal Creek drainages . <br /> Quaternary alluvial deposits occur , as well , in landslide <br /> areas on the hill-slopes to the west and east of Huntsman <br /> Ridge, where Pleistocene gravel deposits can be found as <br /> well . <br /> d .
