General Description of Geology and uvdrologv <br /> 1 . introduction <br /> The Mid-Continent coal Mining operation extracts <br /> coal from the Cretaceous strata in Coal Basin, a small <br /> eroded anticline situated at the southern end of the Piceanca <br /> Basin and superimposed on a monocline called the Grand <br /> Aogback. <br /> Geographically , Coal Basin is located in south- <br /> western Pitkin County , approximately 4 miles west of Redstone , <br /> which in turn is 31 miles south of Glenwood Springs , in <br /> west-central Colorado . <br /> The sources of information and references of <br /> literature studies for the descriptions of the general <br /> geology and hydrology of the Coal Basin area are listed in <br /> Appendix 17T-C-1 . <br /> 2 .
