- 7 -
Waste Rock Dump Areas
1 . If waste rock is not utilized for tailing reclamation, how will the
waste rock piles be reclaimed? Is the existing plan viable? Provide
a detailed reclamation plan that includes upland drainage control ,
stability analyses, local water quality protection, revegetation, etc.
2. How will acid drainage from the waste rock piles be handled if the
rock is reclaimed in place?
Arkansas Aggregate Area
1 . The existing plan indicates that the Arkansas Aggregate area settling
ponds are/were used to retain industrial water runoff. How has this
runoff affected the area, and will the reclamation (1987) of this
area introduce acid or toxic producing materials into the Arkansas
River?
Mine Openings
1 . Discuss specific mine opening closure plans and criteria.
Reclamation Schedule
1 . The amended plan should provide a revised reclamation schedule.
Reclamation should begin as soon as possible.
Wildlife Impacts
1 . There were many questions generated during the initial application
process regarding the impacts to wildlife and necessary mitigation
procedures. Apparently, many meetings occurred between AMAX and
Division of Wildlife personnel . There is, however, little
information in the existing file regarding the resolution of these
issues. It may be appropriate to request an updated wildlife impact
statement, to be included in the amendment. This would be a good
opportunity to assess impacts on wildlife during the past ten years,
and to evaluate any necessary revisions to the wildlife impact
mitigation program at Climax.
Financial Warranty Issues
1 . We will assess the current financial warranty amount as this process
progresses.
/sak
9117F
