I
EXPLANATION
At the time of this permit application submittal
(Dec. 1, 1987) Entries #3, #4 and #5 are inactive, and are
being maintained on a standby status. They are not, therefore,
being used for coal haulage and maintenance is primarily
limited to keeping the drainage systems operating properly.
The Adit/Rock Tunnel extends to the workings of Entries
#1 and #2, and coal is transported from the areas of active
mining to raw coal storage through the Adit/Rock Tunnel, rather
than over the haul roads. Usage of the roads has diminished,
although the Briedan Plant remains at the #1 portal area,
so the road is used for limestone haulage to the plant.
In addition, the road is used and remains important on a year
basis for traffic to the portals to accomplish equipment
maintenance, maintenance of the entries as escapeways and
alternate transportation routes.
