and Associates , Inc. of Denver , Colorado, in conjunction with the
engineering staff at Mid-Continent Resources , Inc.
Drainage Control Structures as Constructed
The recently constructed drainage control structures are tabulated
according to location, type, and size in Table 1 and described
in Plates 2 through 8 . Design criteria used in this portion of the
study are based on Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board and OSM
regulations for Haul roads. Seventeen culverts have been installed
(see Table 2) .
Additional engineering design criteria for culvert location and size
included consideration of the following conditions to effectively
control drainage and erosion:
1 . Significant tributary drainage areas
2 . Presence of steep barren slopes on road fill
3 . Presence of competent bedrock for ditch lining
4 . Coinciding culvert locations with existing gully and ravine
locations
5 . Coinciding culvert locations with existing vegetated,
flatter slopes downstream from culvert outfall points .
The above engineering criteria were used to determine culvert
requirements on each road as follows :
Road A - Additional drainage control structures are not required on
Road A. Road A is the main arterial road.
5
12
