May 9, 2012 C- 1981 - 038 /Bowie No. 1 Mine BFB <br />The main water ditch along the main haul road at the east mine was in good condition. The ditch is scheduled to <br />have all the debris removed in the next couple of weeks. The waterbars crossing the main haul road are in good <br />condition and free of debris. <br />Pond 3 is scheduled to be cleaned in the next couple of weeks. The sediment bales near the junction of the main <br />haul road and the sediment pond access road need to be replaced. <br />ROADS — Rule 4.03 Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3) Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) Surfacing and <br />Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6) Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7): <br />The main haul road was in good condition and passable. <br />RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3: <br />Numerous patches of whitetop and thistle were being treated at the time of this inspection by Basil Bear. <br />Three patches of whitetop were seen at the loadout site. The locations of the patches were: in the loadout sediment <br />pond, north side of the road east of the ditch and south of the road west of the ditch. These locations were given to <br />Basil Bear. <br />The erosion matting by the recently repaired east drainage channel needs to be repaired (photo 3). <br />REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15 Vegetative Cover; Timing: <br />Alyssum (Alyssum alyssoides) was the dominant species along the haul road. It is an early season annual <br />that is not on the Colorado noxious weed list and should become less dominant as the planted perennial species <br />mature. A significant amount of cheatgrass was on the East Mine site and needs to be treated (photo 4). The Delta <br />County Noxious Weed Coordinator, Webb Callicutt, should be consulted to develop a management /eradication <br />plan for the cheatgrass in the mine areas. <br />SIGNS AND MARKERS — Rule 4.02: <br />Mine identification signs were visible with the required information at the loadout, East Mine, ROM and <br />the West Mine. <br />TOPSOIL — Rule 4.06 Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; <br />Redistribution 4.06.4: <br />The topsoil sign was in place at the loadout area. <br />DOCUMENTS RECEIVED: None <br />ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE <br />No enforcement actions were taken as a result of this inspection. <br />Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7 <br />Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4 <br />Page 3 of 6 <br />
