PERMIT #: M- 1999 -047
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: May 9, 2012
CORRECTIVE ACTIONS: The operator must post a sign at the entrance to the mine site which shall be clearly
visible from the access road and specify the following; the name of the operator, indicate that a reclamation
permit for the operation has been issued by the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board, and the permit
number. The boundaries of the affected area must be marked by monuments or other markers that are clearly
visible and adequate to delineate such boundaries.
CORRECTIVE ACTION DUE DATE: 6/29/12
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection of the Adamson Brothers Pit was conducted as a result of a succession of operators from
Adamson Brothers to Dry Creek Farms. This inspection was conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS, no operator
representative was present for the inspection. The current bond posted for this site is $9900. The slopes of the
pit have been largely replaced at a 3:1 slope or flatter with the exception of a small area in the NW corner of the
site, and there appears to be sufficient topsoil/growth media stockpiled along the north and south pit boundaries
for reclamation. This material would need to be spread and the entire area seeded to complete reclamation.
Only minimal additional earthwork would be required to complete the reclamation, therefore, the current bond
should be sufficient to complete reclamation if no additional disturbance is created on site.
A large stockpile of caliche material was present in the center of the pit, but there did not seem to be any areas
of fresh excavation. Some erosion gullies were observed starting on the re- sloped pit walls and these will need
to be repaired and stabilized. Because no further excavation is possible in the directions of the re- sloped walls
without going outside the permit area, DRMS suggests replacing the topsoil in those areas and starting the
revegetation process to prevent further erosion and speed the final reclamation process.
Problems observed during the inspection have been identified at the beginning of the report and include:
missing permit sign and boundary markers, trash on site, and excessive noxious weeds (primarily cheatgrass).
These issues will need to be resolved by the corrective action dates listed above.
