DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WATER RESOURCES
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Director /State Engineer
Respons to Reclamation Permit Amendment Application Consideration
/DATE: May 10, 2012
ATom Kaldenbach, Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
CC: Division 1 Office, District 7 Water Commissioner
FROM: Sarah Brucker, P.E.
-RE: Schwartzwalder Mine, File No. IVI -1977 -300
Operator: Cotter Corporation, (303) 554 -6200
Sec. 25, Twp. 2 South, Rng. 71 West, 6th P.M., Jefferson County
COMMENTS: The applicant has requested to add 3.0 acres to the existing 61.16 permitted acres, for a total of
64.17 permitted acres. This amendment is requested as a result of an update to the reclamation plan for this
site. The additional acreage will accommodate potential drilling from the surface into mined out portions in order
to provide remote access to the mine pool for remediation purposes, and to accommodate potential pipeline
infrastructure to convey pumped mine pool water to a relocated water treatment plant. Mineral extraction has
not occurred at the site since 2000. No changes to site operations are proposed as a result of the amendment.
Based on the provided information, this office has no objection to the proposed amendment.
PC,, os
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303 - 866 -3581 • Fax: 303 - 866 -3589
www.water.state.co.us
