3.1 #1 - Conveyor Crossing
Ground cover of monitoring area #1 - Conveyor Crossing consisted of 75.4% live vegetation, 0.0%
rock, 20.1% litter, and bare ground exposure of 4.5% (Table 3). Perennial cover across the unit
averaged 30.4% with annual and biennial cover averaging 45.0 %. Dominant taxa were cheatgrass
(Anisantha tectorum), four -wing saltbush (Atnp/ex canescens), and greasewood (Sarcobatus
vermicu /atus) with 40.1 %, 18.4 %, and 10.0% average cover, respectively. Current total herbaceous
production in monitoring area #1 - Conveyor Crossing totaled 665 pounds per acre with perennials
contributing 105 pounds per acre (Table 5). Woody plant density was 3,450 shrubs per acre and was
primarily comprised of four -wing saltbush and greasewood (Table 6). Shadscale (Atrip /ex confertifo /ia)
and Wyoming big sagebrush (Seriphidium tridentatum var. wyomingensis) were also occasionally
encountered within the unit.
This unit passes many revegetation success criteria excepting perennial grass diversity standards
and total herbaceous production (Table 1). Qualitative analysis indicates the revegetation in this unit is
in average condition overall. Shrub density and forb establishment are excellent throughout the unit;
however perennial grass populations are diminished. Aggressive invasive species, although not detected
in cover sampling, were observed invading from surrounding areas. These species include knapweed
(Centaurea sp.) and whitetop (Cardaria draba) on the south edge of the unit and jointed goatgrass
(Aegi /ops cy /indrica) along the road.
3.2 #2 - Roadside SP Liaht Use Road #1 (North)
Ground cover of monitoring area #2 - Roadside SP Light Use Road #1 (North) consisted of 38.6%
live vegetation, 34.9% rock, 13.4% litter, and bare ground exposure of 13.1% (Table 3). Perennial cover
across the unit averaged 15.1% with annual and biennial cover averaging 23.5 %. Dominant taxa were,
greasewood, cheatgrass, and annual wheatgrass (Eremopyrum triticeum) with 11.6 %, 7.9 %, and 7.7%
average cover, respectively. Current total herbaceous production across monitoring area #2 - Roadside
SP Light Use Road #1 (North) totaled 531 pounds per acre with perennials contributing 44 pounds per
acre (Table 5). Woody plant density averaged 3,950 shrubs per acre and was dominated by greasewood,
shadscale, and four -wing saltbush (Table 6).
This unit passes six of the ten proposed revegetation success criteria (Table 1). The standards not
successfully met are: the warm - season grass diversity standards, one cool- season grass standard, and
total herbaceous production. Qualitative analysis indicates that monitoring area #2 - Roadside SP Light
Use Road #1 (North) has excellent shrub establishment and promising perennial forb growth, but has few
perennial grasses. Annual species still dominate the area, but odds are reasonable they will diminish over
the next several years.
CEDAR CREEK ASSOCIATES, Inc.
Page 17 Snowcap - Revegetation Evaluation - 2011
Monitoring
