Official Series Description - TRUJILLO Series https:// soilseries. sc. egov. usda .gov /OSD_Docs/T/TRUJILLO.hmil <br />Bk horizon: <br />Hue: 7.5YR or 10YR <br />Value: 5 or 6 dry, 4 or 5 moist <br />Chroma: 3 to 6 <br />Texture: fine sandy loam, sandy loam, loam, sandy clay loam <br />Clay content: 15 to 27 percent <br />Rock fragments: 0 to 15 percent <br />Calcium carbonate equivalent: 1 to 3 percent <br />Reaction: neutral or slightly alkaline <br />GEOGRAPHIC SETTING: <br />Parent material: alluvium derived from coarse sandstone <br />Landform: hills, drainageways and fans <br />Slopes: 3 to 25 percent <br />Elevation: 6,800 to 8,000 feet <br />Mean annual temperature: 43 to 46 degrees F <br />Mean annual precipitation: 17 to 22 inches <br />Precipitation pattern: moist spring and summer, dry winters <br />Wettest period: April through August <br />Driest period: November through February <br />Frost -free period: 70 to 100 days. <br />GEOGRAPHICALLY ASSOCIATED SOILS: These are the Breece, Gulnare, <br />Littlepine, and Molinaro series. The Breece soils are coarse -loamy and are on fans. The <br />Gulnare soils are shallow to lithic contact and are on forested hills. The Littlepine soils lack <br />a mollic epipedon and are on forested fans and hills. The Molinaro soils lack argillic <br />horizons and are on fans and terraces. <br />DRAINAGE AND PERMEABILITY: Well drained, low to medium runoff, moderate <br />permeability. <br />USE AND VEGETATION: Rangeland, hayland and wildlife habitat. The native <br />vegetation is mainly western wheatgrass, green needlegrass, blue grama, little bluestem, <br />sideoats grama, mountain muhly, pine dropseed, and fringed sagebrush. Some areas have <br />scattered ponderosa pine. <br />DISTRIBUTION AND EXTENT: foothills of southeastern Colorado; LRR E, MLRA 49; <br />moderate extent. <br />MLRA SOIL SURVEY REGIONAL OFFICE (MO) RESPONSIBLE: Lakewood, <br />Colorado <br />SERIES ESTABLISHED: Las Animas County, Colorado, 2007, Las Animas and parts of <br />Huerfano county soil survey area, Colorado.
