Pineda <br />Director <br />RE: Twentymile Coal Company, Permit C -82 -056 <br />First Quarter 2012 Discharge Monitoring Report Review (Permit CO- 0027154, CO- <br />0036684, CO- 0042161, COG - 850054, COG - 850051) <br />March 2012 Discharge Monitoring Report (CO- 0027154) <br />Dear Mr. Watterson: <br />The Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety (CDRMS) has reviewed and found the <br />above referenced reports to be in compliance with Rule 4.05.13(2). The First Quarter Discharge <br />Monitoring Reports for the above referenced CDPS Permits were received by the Division on 03 May <br />2012; the reports cover the time period from 01 January 2012 through 31 March 2012 and 01 March <br />2012 through 31 March 2012 (CO- 0027154). <br />Permit CO- 0027154 — During the month of March 2012 only Outfalls 005A/MON5 /005W (Pond D), <br />003A (Pond B), 006A (Pond E), 002A (Pond T), 007A/007W/MON007 (Pond F), and 008A (Pond G) <br />flowed. <br />No outfalls discharged during the months of January and Febuary of the quarter <br />Two exceedances were noted for total recoverable iron, which included the 30 day max and 30 day <br />average at Outfall 005A during the month of March. There were no other exceedances. It is noted that <br />the analytical list for metals for Outfall MON007 was requested in error. As a result of this error, <br />several tests for metals were completed, omitting four that are required (arsenic, chromium, lead, and <br />nickel). The lab report for the analysis of the metals was attached. <br />During the first quarter 2012 WET tests were collected for Outfalls 005 and 007. The tests indicated <br />that the effluent was not acutely toxic to Daphina magna or Ceriodaphina dubia, respectivly. <br />Permit CO- 0036684 — Outfall 001A/001W /MON1 (Site 62) discharged in March of the first quarter, <br />with no exceedances noted. WET tests were collected for Site 62. The tests indicated that the effluent <br />was not acutely toxic.
