Public Notice <br />New Elk Coal Company, LLC, 122 West First St., Trinidad, CO 81082, has submitted to <br />the Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety a complete application for the renewal of a <br />valid existing permit to conduct mining in Colorado for its Lorencito Canyon Mine, <br />mining permit No. C- 1996 -084. <br />The Lorencito Canyon Mine is located approximately 20 miles west of Trinidad, <br />Colorado, Townships 33 and 34 South, Range 66 West, Section 33 and other unplatted <br />lands on the Hill Ranch. The Hill Ranch is generally located southeast of Weston, <br />Colorado. The mine permit area is approximately bounded by the South Fork of the <br />Purgatoire River on the west, Highway 12 on the north, Lorencito and Bonita Canyons on <br />the east and little Alamosa Canyon on the south. Map 2.03.4. -1 and Exhibit 2 of the <br />permit application contain the lengthy, detailed legal description. These lands can be <br />located on the Little Pine Canyon USGS topographical 7.5 minute quadrangle map. The <br />renewal will allow New Elk Coal Company's mining permit to be extended for five <br />additional years after its current expiration date of November 7, 2012. <br />A copy of the permit renewal application is available for public inspection at the Las <br />Animas County Court House in the County Clerk's office during normal business hours <br />and at the offices of the Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety, 1313 Sherman St., <br />Room 215, Denver, CO, 80203, (303) 866 -3567. Written comments, objections, or a <br />request for an informal conference on the application may be submitted to and additional <br />information may be obtained from the Division of Reclamation, Mining & Safety at the <br />above address and must be received by the Division within 30 days after the last <br />publication for this notice. <br />
