COLOWYO COAL COMPANY
SECTION 1- INTRODUCTION
Rills and gullies which form in areas that have been regraded and topsoiled which either
(1) disrupt the approved postmining land use or the reestablishment of the vegetative
covers or (2) cause or contribute to a violation of water quality standards for receiving
streams will be identified during the spring of each year. Regraded and topsoiled areas
will be visually inspected and rills and gullies identify.
This report provides a summary of any identified rills and gullies, all activities
undertaken to remediate these areas, and anticipated time frames for repair. This
report will be submitted annually no later than June 15 of each year.
SECTION 2 — IDENTIFIED RILLS AND GULLIES
In 2012, four areas have been identified for rilling and /or gullies. Please see Map 1 for
location of identified areas.
SECTION 3 — MITIGATION MEASURES
Area 1 is located on topsoil pile 16D which is on the Southwest end of the East Pit
highwall. A small dozer (D6) will repair the gully and the area above the gully that is
ponding water. The area will then be reseeded with the approved topsoil seed mix.
Area 2 is in the East Pit, Section 10, within reclamation block EP050. A small dozer (D6)
will salvage topsoil from the edges of the rill, then regrade the rilling area, and reapply
topsoil on the small disturbed area. The area will then be reseeded with the approved
seed mix for that area.
Area 3 is in the East Pit, Section 15, within reclamation block EP050. Mitigation efforts
in this area will include reestablishment of the lower reach of Prospect Ditch to the tie -
in point on native ground. A small dozer (D6) will most likely be utilized to reconstruct
the ditch; however, due to limited access in the area other means may be employed
dependent on amount of work needed and safety issues that may arise for operators.
Erosion control structures (i.e. rock and /or commercial erosion products) will be
employed to armor and protect the reconstructed ditch. When the repair has been
complete the area will be reseeded with the approved seed mix for that area.
Area 4 is in the West Pit, Section 4, within reclamation block WP015. A small dozer (D6)
will salvage topsoil from the edges of the rill, then regrade the rilling area, and reapply
topsoil on the small disturbed area. The area will then be reseeded with the approved
seed mix for that area.
Page 2
