Board of County Commissioners Faye Griffin District No. 1 v April 19, 2012 v RECEIVED MAY 01Lt�i2 Division of Reclamation, Nlinino ci S;li'i;r John Odom District No. 2 Mr. Tom Kaldenbach Senior Environmental Protection Specialist Donald Rosier Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety District No. 3 1313 Sherman St., Room 215 Denver, Colorado 80203 9 Dear Mr. Kaldenback: After reviewing Cotter Corporation's amendment application for a Regular (112) Hard Rock /Metal Mining Reclamation Permit for the Schwartzwalder Mine, Jefferson County Open Space, the adjacent landowner, would like to make sure the following issue be addressed concerning the proposed disturbance in areas Al through A7. Since areas Al through A4 are within the Ralston Creek riparian area, reclamation of these areas should appropriate habitat for the Preble's meadow jumping mouse that is known to populate the riparian corridor both above and below the mine site. It is our understanding that two monitoring wells are proposed along the northern ridge of area A7. Our concern for this area, along with areas A5 and A6, is the ground disturbances associated with accessing the drilling sites and future monitoring operations. These disturbances could cause sediments from erosion being deposited on park property to the south. Please make sure that any required County Grading Permits and State Stormwater permits are obtained. We would also like to see the drilling spoils removed from the area since they also can be blown or erode from the site onto County Property.
