5. Schedule of Operations
Mining operations will occur as dictated by demand Mining and screening activities will take place
year round and product will be sold from this site throughout the year, although little is expected to be
sold in winter months. Section 3 has a more detailed list of the hours of operation.
6. Water Handling
The water is expected to be approximately three feet below the surface in all pits. A pit pump located
below the active pit level will drain water out cleanly, which will be discharged directly into the
Yampa River Bypass or return ditches that feed into the Yampa River, as shown on Map C -2. Each of
these discharge points will be outfalls in the NPDES permit.
7. Routt County Impacts and Environmental Impacts
The impacts to Routt County will be limited. Minimal dust is expected from the operation due to the
wet nature of the pit„ use of conveyors to move material to the processing area, watering of the pit
floor and crushing operation, and paving of the main site access road. Traffic will access State
Highway 131 from the site Almost 100% of the SSS Mine traffic will proceed north on CO131
towards Alpine's processing facilities. The long term effect of the operation will be beneficial to the
environment by providing aesthetically pleasing lakes with wetland fringe along with hay meadows for
wildlife. Impacts to Routt County and the surrounding landowners are discussed in detail in the Special
Use Application.
Steamboat Sand and Gravel Pit, April 2012 D -7
