Mining Plan Exhibit D <br />1. Geology <br />The deposit to be mined from the SSG pit is one of alluvial gravel from geologically recent deposition <br />and movement of the Yampa River. The gravel is an average of 30 feet thick and overlain with three <br />feet of topsoil and overburden. It is underlain by the Lewis Shale of the Mesaverde group. The gravel <br />is slightly silty with a varying size from fine to coarse. <br />2. General Mining Plan <br />The proposal is for a 20 year life of mine that will extract an estimated 300,000 tons of gravel per year. <br />All of the gravel will be crushed and screened on site, but any other products, such as concrete or <br />asphalt, to be manufactured will be done off site. The total reserve is estimated at 5.2 million tons. To <br />limit the impacts of the mine, the mining phasing plan proposes that after mining out the 14.50 acre <br />processing area (Phase 1 A) there will be no more than 10 acres of pit area at any given time. This will <br />lead to a maximum disturbance of 25.00 acres at any given time. The ten acres would consist of about <br />five acres of active mining and five acres of pit being reclaimed. Reclamation will occur <br />simultaneously with mining. <br />Each individual mining pit will be dewatered as necessary via a pit pump located at least two feet <br />below the pit floor. The pit pump will discharge into the Yampa River Bypass or the return ditches that <br />feed into the Yampa River. Once the processing area is mined out, two pit pumps will be active. This is <br />due to the need for continuous dewatering of the processing area throughout the life of the mine. The <br />pit pump in the processing area will also discharge to the Yampa River Bypass or the return ditches <br />that feed into the Yampa River. Further information about the pit dewatering can be found in Exhibit <br />G. <br />All mined material will be transferred to the processing area via conveyor and/or haul truck. <br />Map C -2 shows the full extent of mining for each of the phases. The reclamation plan shown on Map F <br />has been approved by Routt County, and considerable import of fill will be needed to achieve this <br />layout at maximum mining.
