Introduction
This site is currently the permitted gravel pit, River Valley Resource (M- 2001 -090). River Valley
Resource was owned and permitted by Lafarge West, Inc. As of July 2010, the permit has been
transferred to Alpine Aggregates, LLC. The gravel pit approved as River Valley Resource was never
developed by Lafarge. As part of this amendment, River Valley Resource will now be named
Steamboat Sand & Gravel (SSG) Pit. This is also the name of the operation on all other regulatory
documents (Routt County permit, CDOT permits, etc.)
River Valley Resource covered an area of 128.26 acres including the More Ranch and property
immediately south of the ranch, adjacent to the Yampa River, south of Steamboat Springs. SSG Pit
will have a permit area of 109.97 acres. This permit amendment involves removing the 22.75 acres on
the south side of the existing permit area in addition to other small changes to the permit boundary.
The site consists of two parcels owned by Steamboat Sand and Gravel, LLC: a 42 acre property
fronting on State Highway 131, known as the Four Sisters parcel, and a 105 acre property that was
formerly part of the More Ranch. The mine permit area will cover 109.97 acres of these two parcels.
The applicant for the gravel mine is Alpine Aggregates, LLC of which Ed MacArthur is the Managing
Partner. Alpine Aggregates, LLC has an agreement with Steamboat Sand and Gravel, LLC to lease the
land for the gravel operation. The mining will take place exclusively on the More Ranch, with berms
being built on the Romick property to the north at the Romick's request. Exhibit N contains all leases
and access agreements.
The total permit area for this site is 109.97 acres.
Steamboat Sand and Gravel Pit, April 2012 i -1
