ANNUAL REPORT
Operator: Oldcastle SW Group, Inc. dba United Companies of Mesa
County
Location: Colona Gravel Pit
File Number: M- 1994 -005
Anniversary Date: May 6, 2012
Colona continued to be active during this past report period. Last spring
and summer the pit had one crusher event and one asphalt plant event
concerning a nearby CDOT project as well as retail sand and gravel sales. No
additional wet mining has taken place.
At the present time mining, crushing, & stockpiling continues, slightly
reducing the undisturbed area north of the office. Ongoing crushing will
rebuild aggregate stockpiles, including materials for another CDOT project.
The main portable asphalt plant is being assembled to produce asphalt for
this project. Colona Pit serves as an aggregate material source for other
United projects plus a retail sales yard for sand and gravel products. Weed
management continues here at least twice a year. United will decide if this
is the year to request partial bond release based on the vegetation success
of the reclaimed pit slopes.
