the cut of the hillside and buried in the same grading operation. This, too, will save
substantial trucking costs.
Roads
We proposed a revised plar for reclamation of the mine haul roads which would entail
grading the road surfaces to achieve an outsloping effect, with material excavated from
the roadbed to be placed against the cut of the roadbed. Cross drainage would be
created by a series of dips to be graded into the roadbed.
The current plan calls for transporting substantial amounts of material to be placed
against the inside cut along the length of the roads.3 The revised plan we've proposed
eliminates the backfill.
Another issue related to reclamation of the roads is removal of culverts. There are 70+
culverts along the hauls roads. Some of these culverts are buried at considerable
depth beneath the road, while others are fairly shallow. We proposed leaving them in
plane, allowing them to fill in with dirt, and cutting off the ends. This would save
considerable excavation.4
The Division will agree to most of this proposal, except that they want us to remove
those culverts which are buried fairly close to the surface.
Buildings
We proposed retention of various buildings for post-mining uses. These included the
new lamphouse at the tunnel yard, lamphouse at#5 mine, warehouse, vehicle repair
shop, bath-house, and engineering office/ambulance garage, as well as parking areas,
water system and some electric utilities. With the exception of the lamphouse at#5
mine, none of these would Ce schedule for removal for several years in any case.
We also proposed leaving concrete pads in place.
Tho Division will probably agree to our retaining some structures, but felt we were
proposing too many. We indicated that a final decision would be based on further and
more extensive planning.
i ( They do no like the Idea of I eaving in place the concrete foundations and have not
i
agreed to this proposal.
a The current bond assume the fallowing:
Partial Backfill of Haul Roads 369,577
Backfill Light Uso Roads 4,498
4 The bond calculations do not InGude a sum for removal of culverts
4
