STATE OF COLORADO
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION of COO
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St.', Room 215 *e
Denver,CO 80203 * •
303 866-3567 1876•
FAX 303 832-8106
Roy Romer,
Governor
DATE: April 12, 1991 Fred R.Banta,
Division Director
Dan Mathews
Steve Renner
RE: Tax Status of Mid-Continent Limestone Plant
As you requested I visited the Garfield County Assessor's and Treasurer's
Offices last week in an effort to ascertain the current ownership and tax
status for the 17 acre limestone plant parcel located a short distance west of
the Mid-Continent rail 1 oadout near Carbondale. The real property within the
17 acre parcel is the collateral for Mid-Continent's reclamation bond.
Based on the Assessor 's records , both the loadout site and the limestone plant
acreage are within parcel #2393-354-00-005, schedule #111391 . The landowner
of record is Mid-Continent Coal & Coke and improvements are owned by
Mid-Continent Resources, Inc. Records search at the Treasurer's Office
indicated that there is a tax lien on the property. Coachlight LTD has paid
property taxes on the parcel for the last two years, 1989 and 1990. If
Coachlight LTD pays the property taxes for the next two years, they will be
eligible to apply for a treasurer 's deed.
At this time, Mid-Continent is the owner of record. I am not sure what
bearing the tax lien has on the collateral bond, if any, but we should get
Frank Johnson's opinion.
4841F/scg
