t = (37.5 — 36.2) /(14.2 /sqrt 30) = .501
Since critical t = 0.854 (one - tailed, alpha = 0.2, 29 df) and t, is less than this critical value, the
hypothesis that the mean is indistinguishable from the standard is accepted, and reclamation
success for Phase II BRB PSCM -2 is demonstrated.
Phase 11 BRB PSCM -2 Species Composition Comments
Total observed species density averaged 25 (native and non - native) species per 100 sq.m. in the
Phase II BRB PSCM -2 tested in 2010 at the Peabody Sage Creek Mine. This is less than the
averages (from 28 to 33 species per 100 sq.m.) for the reference areas (see Figure 2). However,
within the 30 random samples taken (comprising together slightly under 3/4 acre) there exist 53
native species. Hence the potential for native species to fill in to species density levels equaling
the references area levels is clearly present. Figure 2 also indicates that in terms of life forms,
there are species from the same spectrum and in similar proportion to what exists in the
reference areas. The greatest contribution to vegetation cover by an individual species is 31%
relative cover (by intermediate wheatgrass).
16
