The Golden Eagle mine permit
encompasses a 1.2 acres reclaimed vent haft and associated pad and access road. As such, no mine
personnel remain on site.
The weather was mild, windy and dry. No mining related activity is occurring on this site.
FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18:
Although no animals were present on the reclaimed fan site at the time of the inspection, there was evidence of
considerable travel through the site by elk. Grasses had been browsed by wildlife as well.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; 4.05.13;
The mine site was dry at the time of the inspection. Employees at neighboring New Elk Mine said that the area
had received approximately 2 feet of snow (1" of ppt.) the previous week. No snow remained and temperatures
were in the 70's.
Some minor rilling is noted on a portion of the reclaimed access road. (photo 4) NECC needs to spread out the
overland flow in this area to keep the concentrated runoff from down cutting into a gully.
No other rills or erosional features were noted.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
The area had previously received spring moisture. Perennial grasses are growing well on the reclaimed area.
Some bare spots exist on the reclaimed access road. A small area of bare soil is present on the south east side of
the reclaimed pad. (photo 3) This bare area is limited in nature and does not show evidence of erosion. No
noxious weeds were observed on the site. The cover on the west access to the reclaimed pad still shows
considerable annual species.
