MONITORING & RECLAMATION ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR 2012 <br />In addition to the continued monitoring of pit slope stability and water quality, Homestake continues to <br />move forward with final closure and reclamation of the Pitch property. During 2012, the following <br />activities are planned: <br />• Continue to monitor the Tie Camp Creek Disposal Cell for depressions where water could pond, <br />and manage the drainage off and around the cell; <br />• Planting of tree seedlings in selected areas of the rock dumps and pits slopes; <br />• Continue to monitor the reclamation work on the constructed wetlands located in the drainage <br />area in the vicinity of the former RTP including placement of additional organic material (e.g. <br />peat), transplanting cattails from similar elevations; and other enhancement activities to further <br />promote sediment control; <br />• Monitor the drainage channels on the east and south walls of the North Pit and the east wall of <br />the South Pit and in other areas throughout the property and make improvements as necessary; <br />• Clean out sediment traps in Indian and Tie Camp creeks; <br />• Inspect and replace, if necessary, the pump in piezometer P -4 and install new level Troll 500, In- <br />Situ level transducer in P -7; <br />• Assess the area where the straw bales were placed in the North Pit in 2010 and install a small <br />diversion ditch as necessary and remove straw bales and clean up area; <br />• Continue to inspect and remove tree seedlings on the downstream face of the Sediment <br />Embankment; <br />• Continued noxious weed control management using Curtail with Surfactant; <br />• Conduct monthly and quarterly monitoring and reporting pursuant to the CDPS permit at the POC <br />SW -33 for water releases; <br />• Conduct annual surveys of the slope monitoring monuments and inclinometers; <br />• Inspect and monitor waste rock dumps and sediment control embankment; and <br />• Continue to evaluate and remedy where possible any blockage in the older piezometers in the <br />Indian Creek waste rock dump. <br />• Continue to remedy erosion between the first and second drainage benches on the Tie Camp <br />Waste Rock Dump; consider installing waddles to prevent erosion <br />• Grade all roads for safe travel ways into and around mine site; and <br />• Set up test for slope movement equipment May /June to determine its functionality and verify <br />proper repair and calibration completed in December 2011 prior to retrieving inclinometer <br />readings for the 2012 field season. <br />Pitch 2011 Reclamation Finalreport 19Apr12.Doc <br />20 <br />
