6. Blasting
Blasting will not take place underground over the life of the mine. Minor blasting of marble blocks on
the surface may be used to construct the sediment control system, in particular, the construction of Sump
4 and the ditch leading to it. These blasts are very small and will not result in any damage to nearby
structures. All blasts will be performed according to MSHA procedures and will be designed to keep
nearby structures intact.
The surface blasting for Sump 4 is the closest point of this type of blasting to the nearby structures:
Private Trail: 50 feet at the closest point.
Old cable tower: 415 feet at the closest point.
Macintyre house: 930 feet at the closest point.
Macintyre cable tower: 430 feet at the closest point.
Colorado Stone Quarries will notify the Macintyres a minimum of eight hours prior to blasting.
