4. Topsoil Management
The topsoil in the affected area is thin to non - existent and found in small pockets on the generally rocky
landscape. Topsoil that is saved will be stockpiled in areas immediately adjacent to the anticipated final
limits of the marble block waste piles, to be used subsequently for reclamation. No topsoil stockpiles are
anticipated at this time. Should it be found that mining activity sequencing allows or requires short term
stockpiling; such topsoil piles will be placed to avoid contamination with rock or other materials, out of
traffic areas, and not in areas where the material would be lost to erosion. Salvage of this resource will
be done where feasible, but very little topsoil is expected to be possible to salvage.
5. Facilities
The mine facilities to be used at the Yule Quarry consist of the following:
1. Generator trailer
2. Propane heater
3. Propane tank
4. Water discharge pipe from underground sumps.
5. Diesel tank of 10,000 gallon capacity with lined secondary containment capable of holding
110% of the maximum tank volume
The majority of the mine's mobile equipment remains underground. Some parking of trucks, etc. does
occur where the mine road meets the lower road.
Yule Quarry April 2012 37
