April 17, 2012 C -2009- 087 /Peabody Sage Creek Mine JDN/l <br />in the vicinity, with the exception of the access road to the pond and upper sump. <br />Culverts and ditches located outside of the South Facilities Area were snow - covered at the time of the inspection. <br />The upper sump was holding water at the time of the inspection. Water was discharging from the Pecoco Pond <br />into the upper sump with a small amount of discharge noted from the upper sump into ditch RC -D3. The <br />embankments of the upper sump were snow covered and were stable at the time of the inspection. No problems <br />were noted with the exception of the following: <br />- At the left and the right of the primary spillway CMP, the ground appeared to be saturated with moisture. All <br />other areas around the outside of the sump embankments were dry. These wet areas may be the result of melting <br />of snow or lower spots where water has collected. These areas will need to be monitored throughout the spring <br />and into the summer to determine if a leak has developed in the upper sump embankment. <br />l�17 =;4 <br />Upper Sump <br />Saturated Areas on east and west side of Upper Sump Discharge <br />The lower sump was holding water and discharging at the time of the inspection. The embankments were stable <br />and stable with little to no vegetation established. No problems were noted with the exception of the following: <br />- There appeared to be a discoloration of the water at the outlet of the emergency spillway to the east of the <br />primary discharge. This area appeared to be saturated; however, it did not appear to be flowing from the inlet of <br />the emergency spillway.
