81 <br /> TAB 9 <br /> ATTACHMENT 9-2A <br /> SOIL SURVEY ADDITION - EAST PIT <br /> INTRODUCTION <br /> Peabody Coal Ccmpany will disturb approximately 5.1 acres of <br /> native soils in Section 31 during 1980 and 1981. Previous dis- <br /> turbance southeast of the present pit from July 1978 through <br /> 1979 totalled 4.4 acres. The disturbance schedule for the east <br /> pit is included as part of the Topsoil Asanagement Plan and <br /> Schedule (Tab 9, Attachment 9-1) . <br /> Active mining will terminate in Section 31 following the 1980 <br /> pit disturbance of 0.4 acres (see Exhibit 12-1) . There will be <br /> additional disturbance to the northwest in 1981. This distur- <br /> bance cxri;prises 4.7 acres and is associated with highwall reduc- <br /> tion. 110 prc-dtct- the quality and quantity of topsoil to be <br /> removed from this area (5.1 acres) , the following soil assess- <br /> ment was completed. <br /> DESCRIPTION OF THE AREA <br /> The East Pit Soil Survey Addition is located 0.5 miles southwest <br /> of the Nucla Mine office in the SW 1/4 NW 1/4 and the NW 1/4 <br /> SW 1/4 of Section 31, Township 47N, Range 15W in Montrose County, <br /> Colorado. The field soil survey map boundary extends well beyond <br /> the expected disturbance area. This survey area is delineated <br /> on the Soil Type and Stripping Isopach Maps contained in Exhibit <br /> 9. Stockpile locations 1 through 4, 13, and 14 are located near <br /> the east pit. Topsoil is currently salvaged ahead of the pit <br /> disturbance using dozers and scrapers. Topsoil from this area <br /> has most recently been stored in Stockpile 14 (see Exhibit 9-2) . <br />
