PRIME FARMLAND - REQUEST FOR NEGATIVE DETERMINATION <br /> OF NON-DESIGNATED LAND <br /> Based upon the U.S. Soil Conservation Service criteria and the <br /> historic uae criterion listed in the Surface Coal Mining and <br /> Reclamation orations, Permanent Regulatory Program, 30 CFR <br /> Chapter vii, g779.27, Prime Mnnland Investigations and <br /> §780.23, Reclamation Plan, Postmining Land Uses, prime farmland <br /> does not exist on the proposed Nucla permit area (see Table 9-1, <br /> Sufface Soil and Subsoil Prime Farmland Negative Determination <br /> and th( rQgpective letters from the Soil Conservation Service) . <br /> All six (6) sail map units listed in the Nucla soil survey <br /> are scheduled for mine disturbance. The following is a summary <br /> of negative criteria for determining prime farmlands for each <br /> soil mapping unit. <br /> PERSAYO SANDY CLAY LOAM - UNIT #r9904, 10-20o SLOPES. The Persayo <br /> soil map unit is not designated prime farmland by the USDA Soil <br /> Conservation Service. This soil occupies landscape positions of <br /> less than 4 hectares (10 acres) per single tract and occurs on <br /> slopes greater than 10 percent. The soil moisture regime is <br /> torric and precipitation is less than 35 cm (14 inches) . These <br /> moderately steep soils are neither irrigated nor subirrigated. <br /> The soil profile depth is less than 1 meter (40 inches) and the <br /> pH often exceeds 7.4 in surface and subsoil horizons. The per- <br /> cent sloj_v times "K" (erodibility factor from the Universal Soil <br /> Loss Equatit01) ;is -'Treater than 2.0. <br />
