information was solicited from the following sources:
1. Colorado Division of Wildlife (DOW) - ga.;e aninal and raptor distri-
bution, big game critical areas and population trends, t'rreatered
and endangered species sightings, inportance of project area to
sport hunting, etc.
2. Peabody Coal Ccn parry - wildlife data surmitted in support of mine
pen,u is near the study area.
3. Colorado State University (CSU) , University of Wycrdng (UN) ; Depart-
ments of Zoology and Wildlife Management - wildlife i,-zformation for
the area gathered in ,support of theses, dissertations or other
University research.
4. In-rouse library - a considerable volume of both published and
unpublished ecological information for western Colorado has been
amassed as a result of our involvement in large-scale ecological
baseline studies in the area.
In addition, biologists working for state and federal agencies and
private industry in the area were interviewed to deterimine the avail-
ability of site-specific ecological information.
T1-o_- existing, site-specific wildlife information was reviewed for its
relevance in describing baseline wildlife conditions for the project
area. rLja pertinent wildlife data were utilized to the maxirum degree to
avoid duplication of effort in the present baseline program and to supple-
ment observatons and data gathered on-site during the course of field
studies. Data gathered over a period of years are particularly important
in developing predictions of population dynamics and seasonal patterns
of distribution of important biota. Such data are ccubined with infor-
mation gathered during the study to provide the most accurate possible
description of baseline wildlife conditions for the project site.
-4-
J U N 1 i 1980
