preservation and analysis techniques and procedures used at the
Nucla Mine are the same as those previously described in Section
III.A. for the surface water operational monitoring program. A
qualification which needs to be made here is that the specific
procedure by which ground water samples have been taken from Nucla
Mine monitoring wells varies slightly from well to well . The
procedure used depends upon one or more of the following variables:
casing diameter, rate of recovery, casing storage volume, depth to
water and site accessibility. As a result, a summary of the
sampling procedures for each well is detailed below.
Well No. Sampling Procedures and Remarks
GW-N3 Set pump at 65 feet; pump 40 to 70
gallons and sample.
GW-N4 Set pump at 20 feet; pump 40 to 50
gallons and sample.
GW-N9 Set pump at 65 feet; pump 30 to 90
gallons and sample.
GW-N10 Dry well .
B. Water Levels
Static water level measurements have been taken on monitor
wells GW-NI through GW-N11 on a monthly basis since the fall of
1979. Recently installed monitor wells are also being
monitored on a monthly basis. All of the water level data are
presented in tabular and graphical form in Appendix E.
1. Wells GW-N1 and GW-N1P1 -- Underburden
Water level measurements have been taken at these two wells on
a monthly basis since August, 1979. The water level hydrographs
show that there is a 10-foot seasonal fluctuation in static water
73
