Pre-Blasting Survey Request Notice
Dear Resident/Owner:
Peabody Coal Company intends to initiate mining activities at our Nucla Mine

This notice is being sent to residents and owners of dwellings within one-half mile of
blasting sites in which explosives will be discharged for the purposes of mining.
In accordance with Rule 4.08.3(1)(b) of the Colorado Surface Coal Mining Regulations, you
are herein provided with information concerning how to request a pre-blasting survey of
any dwelling or structure in which you reside or own within the one-half mile limitation.
The survey shall determine the condition of the dwelling or structure and document any
pre-blasting damage and other physical factors that could reasonably be affected by the
blasting. Assessments of structures such as pipes, cables, transmission lines and wells,
and other water systems shall be limited to surface conditions and readily available data.
Special attention shall be given to the pre-blasting condition of wells and other water
systems used for human, animal, or agricultural purposes and to the quantity and quality
of the water.
If you wish Peabody Coal Company to conduct a pre-blasting survey, please request, in
writing, concurrently to the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Division (CMLRD) at 1313
Sherman Street, 423 Centennial Building, Denver, CO 80203, and Peabody Coal Company, that
you are requesting a pre-blast survey. State your name and address and list the type and
number of dwelling(s) or structure(s) you desire to have surveyed. Upon receipt of your
request by CMLRD, Peabody will be contacted. Peabody will then contact you for an
appointment to perform a condition survey. Upon completion of a report documenting the
survey, a copy will be submitted to you and CMLRD. If you disagree with the results of
the survey, you may notify, in writing, both Peabody Coal Company and the CMLRD of
specific areas of disagreement. if you do not wish to have a pre-blasting survey
performed, you need do nothing.
