Comments: MAC recommends a finding of "no historic properties affected" for this project, and <br />recommends no further work pertaining to cultural resources. <br />DESCRIPTION OF UNDERTAKING / PROJECT <br />10. Type of Undertaking: Drilling of sixteen core holes for sampling of subsurface coal deposits and the <br />construction of a twin shaft entrance area to underground mine facilities. <br />11. Size of Undertaking (acres): 15 Size of Project (if different): 75 <br />12. Nature of Anticipated Disturbance: The core holes will impact a small area (up to 50ft x 50ft). First the <br />area will be leveled to accommodate a truck - mounted coring machine, which will test for subsurface coal <br />deposits. Surface vegetation will be removed but the root system will be left when possible. The core hole <br />is small and will impact less than one square foot. A total of 1200ft of existing two -track will need <br />improvement to access core holes CCU15, CCU18 & CCU22. The shaft location will impact an area <br />approximately 300ft x 300ft and a small amount of a new road (500ft) could possibly be built to access the <br />shaft location from the southeast. <br />
