"Peabody Energy Twentymile Coal Company Sage Creek Subsidence Project: A Class III
Cultural Resources Inventory, Routt County, Colorado" (February 27, 2009). These reports
can be found in Appendix C, Cultural Resources Investigations. A map showing the
locations where all cultural resources surveys have occurred is included as Map 4, Cultural
Resources Surveyed as of 2009. No archaeological sites or isolated finds were indentified.
Previous surveys have identified several isolated finds and historic /prehistoric sites in the
general region. MAC findings were "no effect on historic properties" and recommends no
additional cultural resources work for these sites. Drillholes CCU081 and CCU083 have not
yet had a cultural resources survey performed in their area, however, these sites will be
surveyed as soon as weather allows. No drilling will occur at these sites until the surveys
have been performed.
Describe Exploration Activities
The primary methods of exploration and geologic and chemical data collection proposed in
this application include exploration drilling, geophysical logging, and sampling, followed by
reclamation of all exploration disturbances, as more specifically described in the following
sections.
The 2012 Exploration Program involves eleven (11) exploration drillholes to further
delineate and characterize geologic conditions, coal seam occurrence and quality, and
overburden physical and chemical characteristics with five (5) holes being included in this
NOI.
Each of the proposed 2012 drill -sites are shown on Map 1, 2012 Surface Ownership, and
listed in Table 1, 2012 Drillhole Location and Ownership.
Scheduled Timing - PSCM plans to initiate exploration activities immediately upon receipt
of required approvals, and continue as weather and ground conditions allow. It is anticipated
that drilling activities will be completed by the end of 2012, although weather or other
unanticipated delays may result in extension of the activities into 2013. The drilling
operations will be scheduled on a 12 -hour per day basis (approximately 7:OOam to 7:OOpm);
however, PSCM requests permission to conduct operations on a 24 -hour per day basis if
unforeseen delays cause the project to fall behind schedule. In the event of winter drilling
activities, PSCM will coordinate with the CPW to keep specific gates locked to preclude
public access, and to avoid areas of critical winter range.
Site Development - Exploration Access: Primary access to the proposed exploration area
will be via existing Routt County Road 27, southeast of Hayden, Colorado. Routt County
Road 27, as well as, existing graveled coal mine haul roads and unimproved ranch roads and
jeep trails will be utilized to access exploration drill -sites within the exploration area. PSCM
has specifically located proposed drill -sites adjacent to existing roads and in areas of
previous disturbance in order to minimize any new disturbance associated with the proposed
exploration activities.
There may be limited instances where direct access to a proposed drill -site is not possible
using the existing road network. In these circumstances, drilling equipment will be moved
overland the short distance between the existing roadway and proposed exploration pad
PSCM 2012 NOI 13 April 2012
