DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WATER RESOURCES
John W. Hickenlooper
Governor
Mike King
Executive Director
Dick Wolfe, P.E.
Response to Reclamation Permit Application Consideration Director /State Engineer
DATE: March 26, 2012
TO: Eric C. Scott, Environmental Protection Specialist
CC: Division 1 Office, District 1 Water Commissioner
FROM: Sarah Brucker, P.E.
RE: North Star Pit, File No. M- 2012 -004
Operator: Superior Oilfield Services Co., LTD
Contact: Michael Miller, (970) 454 -3222
Sec. 22, Twp. 12 North, Rng. 63 West, 6th P.M., Weld County
CONDITIONS FOR APPROVAL
® The proposed operation does not anticipate exposing groundwater. Therefore, exposure of ground
water must not occur during or after mining operations.
® The applicant has indicated plans to use other water for dust control purposes at the permit site.
Applicant will need to document that this water was obtained from a legal source, or the water was
diverted in priority under a water right decreed for such industrial use.
COMMENTS: The site is partially located within the Upper Crow Creek Designated Ground Water Basin. The
area is to be mined for gravel and dirt to a depth of approximately 12 feet. Approximately 6,000 gallons of water
per day will be required for dust control purposes. This water is to be obtained from an industrial well located in
Wyoming. If stormwater runoff is intercepted by this operation and is not diverted or captured in priority, it must
be released to the stream system within 72 hours. This may require a discharge permit from CDPHE -WQCD.
Otherwise, the operator will be required to make replacements for evaporation. The site will be reclaimed to its
existing use of cropland at the conclusion of mining operations. So long as the above conditions of approval are
complied with, this office has no objection to the proposed mining operation.
RECEIVE
APR 1 2 2012
Division of Reclamat::
Mining & Safetv
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303 - 866 -3581 • Fax: 303 - 866 -3589
www.watenstate.co.us
