STATE OF COLORADO
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION of coo
Department of Natural Resources
H ' O
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver,CO 80203
303 8 66-35 67 *1876
FAX- 303 832-8106 -
Roy Romer,
Governor
Fred R Banta,
Division Director
DATE: January 13, 1992
TO: Harry Ranney )
FROM: Jim Pendleton
RE: National Ki Coal Co any' s TR-01 - Coal Waste Bank Redesign -
Supp emen ubmittal #2 (Permit No: C-81-035)
I have reviewed the second supplemental submittal made by NKC, Inc. on
November 18, 1991 . This submittal presents an amended pile design for the
waste bank proposed to be built at the NKC Mine. Mr. Don R. May, P.E. ,
consultant to the applicant, submitted this amendement in response to our
adequacy comments . Mr. May has amended the design to eliminate the culvert
proposed in the first supplemental submittal . The waste pile configuration
has been amended to accommodate the diverted runoff in a ditch located along
the eastern periphery of the pile, instead. As a result the refuse will no
longer serve as an impounding structure.
This proposed relocation of the drainage ditch satisfies my earlier adequacy
concern. In my opinion, the geotechnical aspects of the National King Coal
waste pile are now acceptable. I recommend approval of the plan, as amended.
cc: Dave Berry
JP/Jp
