2 . 03 . 8 Page 1
PERMIT TERM INFORMATION
King Coal Mine has been mining federal coal resources since
1941 on a continuous basis to the present time. Federal Coal
Lease C-29125 issued October 29 , 1981 and containing 180 acres of
Federal Coal Reserves adjacent to and directly south of original
Coal Lease P-058300 , containing 160 acres , extended the life of
the mine approximately 10 additional years at current production
levels .
The MLR permit issued to National King Coal under final
rules in 1981 for a period of 5 years covered the life of the
mine unless a new Federal Coal Lease was granted. As this lease
was finalized in 1982 , MLR permit C-81-035 was renewed August 18 ,
1987 .
National King Coal , Inc . has acquired a modification to
Lease C-29125 , as shown on Map C-3 , with the expected mining
projections . Acquiring the modification does not extend the life
of the mine , but replaces unmineable reserves in present leases .
(See report from Fred Johnson, C.P.G. , dated November 17 , 1988 in
Section 2 . 03 . 8 .
