2 . 05 .6 Page 25
Based on experience in extracting pillars in the King Coal
Mine , condition of old workings , drill hole data, geologic
conditions , rock strength, overburden depth and monitoring,
surface subsidence is only just beginning - and only in those
areas where the Cliff House Sandstone has been partially removed
by erosion. If ground subsidence reaches the surface in areas of
thicker overburden, it is expected to be in the form of troughs
resulting from gentle settling. In either case, impact will be
minimal - tension fractures in soil will heal through weathering
and settling and maximum depth of settling and subsidence will be
determined by survey monitoring .
