2 . 05 .6 Page 22
a cleat system in this area. Present and future mining will be
carried out in such a manner that this condition will not
reoccur. No other surface evidence is apparent above areas mined
by National King Coal , Inc. It is very likely that these tension
fractures will heal with weathering and compaction (see Map C-8) .
GEOLOGIC HAZARDS DUE TO SURFACE SUBSIDENCE. KING COAL MINE
It is estimated that hazards due to subsidence are minimal
to moderate . The surface of the mine plan area is open
rangelands used exclusively for livestock grazing . There are no
inhabited dwellings or buildings on this land. The up slope area
does not constitute an important watershed and no perennial
streams cross the land. None of the potentially affected land is
prime farmland. An archeological survey was done during the
summer of 1980 (see Section 2 . 04 . 4 ) . The determination of this
study was that no cultural or historical ruins or artifacts exist
on this land.
The regional water table as well as the local water table is
below the mine workings . Drill hole information on the property
indicates that there is water in the overburden strata (see
Section 2 . 04 . 7 for details ) . Therefore , no aquifers are likely
to be disturbed by ground movement.
None of the permit acres are over active mine workings . The
area will not be disturbed by surface subsidence due to mining.
