Rodriguez, Mary
From: Binns, Janet
Sent: Friday, April 13, 2012 1:55 PM
To: DRMS- Coal -Admin
Subject: Southfield C1981014 Citizens concern- subsidence features
Hello Mary or Alysha,
Please scan the attached e -mail from a landowner, Dr. W.D. Corley, at the Southfield Mine, regarding concerns regarding
Subsidence holes at Southfield.
Thank You,
Janet
From: W D Corley, Jr. [mailto:ajjc @att.net]
Sent: Thursday, April 12, 2012 5:30 PM
To: Binns, Janet
Subject: subsidenceruptured
Janet,
I think that I reported that we have had many motorcycle trespassers in the immediate area of the subsidence
features near the Thompson house, but in the last two weeks that number apparently has greatly increased.
They have created a race track and have done considerable damage, but our main concern now is the risk of
injury to these trespassers with the open subsidence holes. We have not been able to keep them fenced out.
Today we filed a complaint with the Fremont County Sheriffs office. I would also note that there has been
motorcycle traffic in the Southfield area. Apparently a pickup entered around the gate on County Rd. 92, and
ruptured a tire on the gate support when it climbed the embankment at the GEC sediment pond. The tire was
forced off the rim and left behind which is the reason that we know about the tire damage, and of course that
tire tread pattern matches the tire tracks. They have driven on and off the road and across the Energy
reclamation as well as driving thru the coal loadout tunnel.
Doug Corley
