The Coal Ridge Mine has been reclaimed and the Division has approved a Phase <br />II Bond Release for the site. The weather was cool and clear and the ground was dry. <br />AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS – Rule 5.02.4(1): <br />- The Coal Ridge No. 1 Mine’s compliance records were at the Garfield County Courthouse in Glenwood Springs, <br />Colorado. Please see the Division’s Availability of Records form at the end of this ins pection report for more <br />details . There are four items that need attention in the compl iance files . <br /> <br />B ACKFILL and GRADING – Rule 4.14 Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour <br />4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); Steep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials <br />4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6: <br />- The regarded portal and facilities benches remain stable. There were no signs of cracking, settling or slumping <br />in the backfill and no erosional problems were noted at the time of the inspe ction. <br /> <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, <br />4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water <br />Monitoring 4.05.13; Surface Water Monitor ing 4.05.13; Drainage – Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; <br />Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Z ones 4.05.18: <br />- The remaining sediment pond was dry at the time of the inspection. The pond embankment was well vegetated <br />and stable and no erosional pr oblems were noted. Last summer there was a large amount of Russian knapweed <br />present in the bottom of the pond. This year there was a small amount of knapweed present. The Minrec needs <br />to continue to spray the pond and other areas of the site to keep t he knapweed under control. There was some <br />erosion going into the pond from the remaining ditches. This erosion has been there for some time and does not <br />appear to be getting any worse. <br />- The remaining ditches capture water from the benches above and conv ey it to the remaining sediment pond. the <br />ditches were all well vegetated and stable at the time of the inspection.
