Jerry Nettleton of Moffat County Mining accompanied me on the inspection.
The mine is currently idle and not producing coal. They are performing maintenance and monitoring activities and
limited reclamation activities. The weather was warm and sunny and the ground was dry.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS – Rule 5.02.4(1):
- The records were brought to the site in several binders by Jerry Nettleton. The records are kept at the Twenty
Mile Mine in Oak Creek, Colorado. Please see the D ivision’s Availability of Records checklist at the end of this
inspection report for more detailed information.

BACKFILL and GRADING – Rule 4.14 Contemporaneous Reclamation 4.14.1; Approximate Original Contour
4.14.2; Highwall Elimination 4.14.1(2)(f); S teep Slopes 4.14.2, 4.27; Handling of Acid and Toxic Materials
4.14.3; Stabilization of Rills and Gullies 4.14.6:
- The backfilled and regraded Mine No. 4 portal area remained stable and well vegetated at the time of the
inspection. There was no evidenc e of slumping, settling or cracking in the backfill.
- The backfilled and regraded solid waste disposal area by the No. 9 Mine refuse pile was stable at the time of the
inspection. The area was well vegetated. There was no sign of slumping or settling in the backfilled area. There
is a small dozer slot that has been cut in this area for the disposal of other mine related and demolition debris.
However, it appears as though the area is being used by some of the employees to dump non mine -related items,
i ncluding full garbage bags, a refrigerator and a television. Moffat County Mining needs to limit access to this
portion of the site and make sure employees are not dumping non -mining related items into the slot. Jerry was
notified of the Division’s conce rn and stated that he would take care of the problem.
