December 29, 2011 C -1981 -035 /King Coal Mine MLT <br /> <br /> <br />Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 4 <br />Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2 Page 3 of 5 <br /> <br /> The King II sediment pond was virtually dry, with a small sheet of ice covering the pond <br />bottom at the southern end . The inlet ditches, outlet structure and pond embankment did not <br />appear to be in need of maintenance. <br /> Clear water diversion ditches at King II were in good condition. There was one spot on the <br />east ditch, just upstream of the crushing/screening tower, w here a haul truck had apparently <br />rolled over the ditch berm with its rear wheels. Mr. Jarvis noted the site, and said the berm <br />would be repaired. <br /> Culverts and collection ditches within the King II dist u rbed area were clear and appeared to <br />be allowing posi tive drainage to the pond. <br /> <br />SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04: <br /> A new screening unit has been delivered to the King II site; it will replace an older unit <br />that had caused excessive vibration. Installation is scheduled to take place the following <br />week. A port able screen box, with conveyors, has been rented to handle the coal during <br />the tear -down and set -up of the permanent equipment. Mr. Jarvis said the project is <br />anticipated to take approximately 10 days to complete. <br /> At the upper end of the western King II drainage, miscellaneous equipment continues to <br />occupy a graded area next to the clearwater diversion ditch. The majority of this <br />equipment is innocuous, but we did observe some transmission / axle assemblies lying on <br />the ground, with no secondary containm ent provided. The preferred practice would be to <br />store all equipment parts, which potentially contain petroleum products, within the oil <br />storage shed. <br /> <br />
