PRODUCTION
(Table A-6)
Total herbaceous production in 2011 was 1,391.8 pounds per acre. Of this, 1,183.0 pounds were native
perennial forbs and 207.0 were native perennial cool season grasses. Three other lifeforms were present
at Tess than 2 pounds per acre.
2011 Mountain Brush Reference Area
(Photographs 46 through 63)
COVER
(Table A -7)
Native shrubs were the predominant lifeform observed in the Mountain Brush Reference Area, contributing
74.1 percent all -hit vegetation cover. Of this, Gambel's oak (Quercus gambelii) contributed 37.1 percent,
mountain snowberry contributed 22.6 percent, and Saskatoon serviceberry and chokecherry (Padus
virginiana ssp. melanocarpa) each contributed 6.7 percent. Native perennial forbs and native perennial cool
season grasses made strong contributions to all -hit cover, with 21.4 and 20.3 percent, respectively. Also
observed in the area was the noxious weed hound's tongue.
Total average vegetation cover for first hits was 79.4 percent. Allowable all -hit herbaceous vegetation cover
was 43.9 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock averaged 1.3, 12.7, 6.0 and 0.6
percent, respectively (first hit). Average species density was 39.1 species per 100 sq. m.
PRODUCTION
(Table A -8)
Total herbaceous production in 2011 was 754.8 pounds per acre. Of this, 381.9 pounds were native
perennial cool season grasses and 360.4 were native perennial forbs. Four other lifeforms were present at
less than 11 pounds per acre.
16
